CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Henry
Character Canon: Fire Emblem: Awakening
History:Fire Emblem Wiki
AU History: Henry was one of many middle children of a wealthy, but somewhat reclusive, Union family. They had little use for one of their random middle children, so Henry was shipped off to the University as soon a possible, to get him out of the house. With almost complete neglect from his parents (aside from enough tuition money to make sure that he had little trouble advancing from year to year) he had as much freedom as the school would reasonably allow him. He spent most of his childhood years experimenting with his own and his friends burgeoning enlightened powers, usually in dangerous ways as small children tend to do.
When he was able to escape the confines of his dormitory, Henry liked to find ways between the great walls of Union out into the wild expanses that surrounded the city. His natural proclivity to be friendly towards pokemon (and his ability to speak with them) helped keep him somewhat safer in the savage lands, with him making friends with numerous pokemon. The most significant of these relationships was the bond he formed with a pack of Mightyenas, so deep that he considered the pack leader almost like a second father to him. Henry would sneak out over weekends and the holidays to spend time with his new pokemon family, to share their hunts with them, and sleep with them during cold nights.
Henry’s ability to sneak out would be severely curtailed after one of the Mightyenas followed him back through the secret passages he used to access the world outside Union. The unfortunate pokemon was caught and killed by angry Union residents, fearing the havoc a feral pokemon could cause in their part of town. Some of the villagers involved in the killing disappeared shortly after, with only stains of blood left in the places they were last seen. Henry was suspected, but his younger age and lack of evidence in his involvement saved him from an actual punishment, but he was put under stricter supervision and banned from leaving the city until he had finished his studies.
After completing his primary education, Henry moved on to more advanced studies, primarily as a medic specializing in post-mortem investigation and autopsies (someone’s gotta do it). Occasionally, when he had the time, Henry would wander the universities libraries, looking for any information he could on the death rituals of the old city. After graduating, Henry found work as a medical examiner at the medical center.
Canon Personality: Always armed with a smile (how fake a smile it is is open to interpretation) and a helping, if darkly morbid hand, Henry is simultaneously a very pleasant and incredibly creepy person to hang around with. As a necromancer and the worshipper of a god of death, he has an intense fascination with death, blood and violence. He sees nothing wrong with any of them, viewing them as part of the natural order of things. Henry feels that, as everyone dies, it shouldn't be something that people should get so hung up on. Though this doesn’t mean that Henry doesn’t feel that you should be sad or angry at the death of a loved one (quite the opposite, as he promises his friends he’ll go on a bloody rampage to avenge their deaths), but that there is no reason to spend a lot of time worrying about dying or fearing death.
This, combined with his background, has granted Henry a somewhat different view on morality than many of his comrades. Since he does have such a light view of death, he sees little wrong with killing one’s way through the solution of many problems. He tends to find people who don’t share his sunny outlook on death and decay as weird, an opinion which he isn’t afraid to share. He is fiercely loyal to those he does see as friends, promising to rain down curses and bloody vengeance to those who try and harm them.
While always cheerful and willing to both help and listen to his friends and comrade, Henry is not usually willing to open up emotionally to them. On a small level, his cheerful facade is a crutch to hide the emotional scars he suffered from having a distant family. But he is a genuinely cheerful fellow, though some find his smile and attitude a bit hollow. When he does talk to people, he has a tendency to spin tall tales and half-truths. However, when he feels that those who are close to him are truly in danger or hurt, he is willing to open up and show them emotions besides extreme cheer.
Henry also has a slight problem with taking ideas to their logical extremes, sometimes out of a misguided sense of enthusiasm (such as using a death curse to train a friend, or sacrificing pigeons to cure someone’s insomnia) and sometimes as a way in poking holes in ideas he doesn’t quite agree with or understand (such as offering to cause suffering to all of his friends because another friend said she wants all humans to suffer). But this doesn’t mean he isn’t able to listen and learn. If a friend asks him not to do something, as long as he doesn’t find the idea completely stupid (such as being told not to fight the enemy), he will respect their wishes, and even slowly come around to their point of view if it will help grow his bond with them.
AU Deviation: Due to the nature and attitudes about murder in Union, AU Henry is considerably less willing to kill, and much slower to joke about murdering people. He will still try to enact revenge on those who hurt his friends, but in a considerably less terminal manner. As he is no longer officially a necromancer, he will instead revere any god/pokegod that is associated with death and destruction, up to the point that would get him completely ejected from society.
Canon Abilities:
Enlightened Abilities: Dark/Ghost, Kindred Soul
To mimic his canon powers, Henry is able to cast simple curses at first: initially status effects such putting someone to sleep or making his target feel sick. He can also remove status effects that he is able to cause from people/pokemon. As he evolves as an enlightened, his curses will become more and more powerful, being able to cause pain and severe illness in addition to more base status effects. When he reaches the peak of his ability, the curses will become more fatal, and he will regain his ability to return status effects back to the original cause of the effect.
His ability to talk with animals/pokemon should be reflected in Kindred Soul.
As a ghost type he is incredibly tolerant to pain, though he takes damage normally (so while that broken arm may seem funny to him instead of painful, it’s still broken).
Starter Pokémon: Ghastly
Notes/Special Considerations: I did talk to the FAQ about Henry being a medical examiner so I guess that would also entail him being a doctor, if that's ok.
SAMPLES
(NOTE: You may link a previous entry or thread, including testrun or musebox threads (but NOT Dear Mun), for one or both samples. However, we want to see the character in the setting of Brave New World and specifically in their AU for at least one sample.)
First-Person: Test Run
Third-Person: Henry looked down at the survey and smiled. He like helping people out with things like this! He picked up a pencil and began writing.
What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
The first question. Henry looked over to his companion Ghastly and repeated it to him. "What do you think, Ghostface?". The pokemon floated for a second before giving Henry a large Raspberry.
"Nyahaha, Exactly! I'll write that down. Pokemon are my friends! They help me work out problems that I couldn't solve on my own, and they give me someone to talk to when I feel like talking. They are way less weird than other people, which is nice."
Henry wrote down his answer and then moved onto the second question.
What do you feel your role in Union is?
"That's silly," he thought. "I figure out how someone died. What's the next question?"
To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?
"Oh, pfft, that's easy. I would destroy everything in my path to save them. Nothing could stop me, Nyahaha. Well, maybe dying. But as long as I wasn't dead I would get them back! Nothing's more important than my friends."
A human has attacked a wild Pokémon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?
"It depends! Was the human starving or was he being a jerk to the pokemon? If he just needed to eat I'd help the human, that's just how nature works. Sometimes you need to kill to eat! But if the human was just being a jerk to the pokemon, I'd definitely help the pokemon. Sometimes you need to kill but you need a reason! You can't just attack someone because you want to. As for responding, I'd do like I'd do in any fight, do whatever I can to win! Even if I need to kill someone, nyahaha."
You plunge into the depths of the Old City. What is it that you seek from the past? Treasure, technology, wisdom?
"Dark and terrible secrets of the past, Nyahaha! Those are always the best. I want to see what horrible things that they used to get up to back then! Really, I just want to know if they could make zombies. Wouldn't that be swell? Zombies from the past, GRUUUURRRR nyahaha. OH! Maybe there are mummies down there. That would be neato too. I wanna talk to a mummy. If they can talk."
What strengths make you most qualified for your role within Union?
"I love blood and I don't think there is anything strange about death. I don't know why everyone thinks what I do is scary. All those people are weird. It's like they don't think that they are going to die! Their lives would be a lot less stressful if they liked dying."
After the last question, Henry folded the questionnaire up placed it in the envelope, and handed it to Ghostface to lick close. Expectedly, the Ghastly took off out of the room with it, Henry followed, laughing.
"Nyahaha! I need that Ghostface! You need to lick it not hide it! No, lick the envelope, not me!"
The Pokemon has turned around and tackled his companion, licking him briskly on the face. Together they rolled around, laughing.
"Nyahaha, I can't feel my face anymore!"

Canon Abilities:
- Very High Pain Tolerance
- Can cast spells from spellbooks, both elemental spells and dark magic spells
- Can cast curses (similar to D&D wizard spells, a combination of movements, magical phrases, and ingredients), they are pretty stereotypical curses, sleep curses, death curses, though he does switch minds with people a few times.
- Also very good at removing/defending against curses. Can also throw back curses he removes from people to person who cast the curse originally
- Constantly surrounded by crows. Henry doesn’t know why
